I recently spent eight days in and around Bogota, Colombia, and found the people, culture, and cuisine to be fascinating. In fact, I am looking forward to returning to Colombia to explore more of its six distinct regions. The one issue I discovered it that as an emerging destination, the logistics and standards are not always what a person looking for a comfortable and easy experience are going to find. Goldring Travel Heads to Colombia – A Culinary & Cultural Experience (Part IV – A Travelogue)
However, AmaWaterways – always on the cutting edge! – has come up with the perfect solution: Two brand new-purpose built river cruise ships, AmaMagdalena (only 60 guests) and AmaMelodia (only 64 guests), to carry you in comfort to some of the most interesting areas of Colombia on the Magdalena River over eight days from Cartegena to Barranquilla (or the reverse)…with easy air too.
The AmaMagdalena has only 30 suites ranging in size from 237 sq. ft. to 517 sq. ft., each with the famous AmaWaterways dual balcony (French and Outside). The Luxury Suite (306 sq. ft.) has a bathtub and the Grand Suites has two bathrooms (one with a bathtub and one with a shower). There is a heated pool, spacious fitness center, spa, main lounge, and restaurant, along with an al fresco dining experience.
The AmaMelodia is very similar, but it has 32 suites ranging from 237 sq. ft. to 318 sq. ft., with a Junior Suite (275 sq. ft.) and Luxury Suite (318 sq. ft.) with a bathtub.
As there is so much to see, you can opt to do a back-to-back and/or add a two or three-night pre- or post-cruise extension to Medellin, which has quickly become both the art and coffee capital of Colombia. Connections – Coffee, Cable Cars, and the Cuisine of Medellín | AmaWaterways™
Interested in a more in-depth travel experience? Goldring Travel has private options for the more adventurous traveler in Bogota, Medellin, Cali, Cartegena, and more with options for remote ecolodges, Amazon experiences including birdwatching and trekking, coffee plantation experiences, in-depth social awareness experiences, culinary journeys, and more.
I am finding that the Spring 2024 sailings are selling well and some sailings are already sold out. So if you are interested, NOW is the time to not only start thinking about this interesting and exciting destination but to book your river cruise and land extension.
Prices start at $4,388.10 per person for a Balcony Stateroom and $5,148.10 per person for a Suite. And, keep in mind, there are easy flights from the U.S. to Cartegena, Colombia making this a wonderful experience without the time or expense involved in flying to Europe.
