Seabourn to Build Second New Ship (“Probably”)

Stein Kruse, President of Seabourn/Holland America/Princess/P&O Cruises has finally publicly stated what has been a not so secret “secret” for months:  Seabourn will probably be building a second new ship for delivery in 2018.

This is, truth be told, why Seabourn 2016 new ship delivery has been delayed a few months.  You see Fincantieri, the Italian shipbuilding company, has a number of shipyards and the original yard was large enough to build one 640 guest ship, but not two at the same time.  So the yard building the new ship had to change, but was subject to a bit of an availability issue.

This second ship has also had a bit of a twist on the Inaugural and Maiden Voyages of the 2016 ship: It will be delivered in November 2016 (though bookings for the Maiden Voyage  will be opening in only a few months) and the itineraries are going to be very unique and unexpected.

With Seabourn transferring its smaller ships in the next few months and the new builds on the way, there is no question that Seabourn will continue having the youngest, most luxurious, and most innovative fleet in the luxury cruise market.
