Lindblad Expeditions announced today that the 48 Suite National Geographic Islander II is now ready to sail in the Galapagos. It is a great alternative for those seeking a smaller ship luxury experience.

The Nat Geo Islander II was formerly sailing as the Crystal Esprit and is a true luxury vessel. You may not recognize the ship with its new paint job, as it really helps the former ugly duckling look a bit sexy. (As background, Genting, Crystal’s former owner and now in liquidation, dumped the Esprit on Crystal who, in turn, tried to create a market for it in the Maldives and, when unsuccessful, in the Adriatic Sea – focusing on Croatia.)
Because of National Geographic Islander II’s heritage, she offers a full spa, high-ech fitness center and plunge pool to go along with 18 Suites, 4 Solo Suites and 4 larger Islander Suites serviced by a 1:1 staff to guest ratio with 5 specialist guides (undersea, photo and certified instructors) with a Nat Geo Global Explorers program for children. There are also two dining spaces (indoor and outdoor) – Patio Cafe and The Grill – as well as The Cove for socializing, drinks and lectures. And, of course, an open bridge policy.
Nat Geo Islander II also has a marina along with a fleet of kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, a glass-bottom zodiac, snorkel gear for adults and children, remote ocean-viewing cameras, a science hub and video microscope.
That is in addition to a new, improved, air conditioning system, environmentally appropriate bottom paint, and more improvements.
The ship is offering two itineraries: A seven day Galapagos expedition and a 10 day Galapagos & Machu Picchu itinerary. These itineraries are great for for those with a very limited amount of time. There are longer itineraries available…just not on this ship.
