Seabourn Cruise Line has announced it is constructing two 264 passenger ultra-luxury expedition ships with deliveries in June 2021 and May 2022. The first expeditions will be in the Arctic before the first ship transitions to Antarctica.
These Seabourn Ventures integrated ships will be built to PC6 Polar Classification, which means it can operate in the summer and autumn in medium first year ice with some older ice present. This allows for Seabourn to travel deeper in the Antarctic and Arctic regions than the Seabourn Quest (its only ice-hardened hulled ship presently) can travel.
The ships will have 132 veranda suites and, being purpose built, will have some unique amenities beyond its two submarines, 24 zodiacs and kayaks. Yes, it will have two submarines; though I do not yet have information on the size or abilities of them.
With Seabourn having already developed a fantastic Seabourn Ventures program (which I will be publishing an article on shortly), this means not only that Seabourn can literally hit the ground (water?) running rather than starting anew.
It also means that Seabourn’s other five ships will be set free to explore more exotic locations around the world.
Stay tuned for more information!
