I haven’t had much to say…yet…about the Viking Star, which is going to appear later this year as Viking River Cruise’s first ship venturing into the ocean cruise market.
While it appears to have spacious staterooms; noting it correctly calls its 270 square foot Veranda and Deluxe Veranda Staterooms (while Regent Seven Seas calls accommodations down to 219 square feet “suites”) I have yet to see layouts or many specifics on amenities so I am withholding comment.
For example, the idea of Viking Star having coffee makers in most staterooms and suites could be really good – or not so good based – upon the coffee and equipment provided. (I mean lousy coffee, equipment that doesn’t brew hot enough, powered creamer and/or paper cups can take you from an wonderful Nespresso-made espresso in a china cup experience to a Holiday Inn in about 2 seconds.)
But until then…
Here is a really nice video of the Viking Star’s sea trial, It shows there is still, six months after the ship was floated out, much to do…and that makes it even more interesting if you want to see in a few minutes what engine rooms and other below deck doings look like.
